Ike Baker
NZERF Board Member - Equestrian Sport & Riders

Ike Baker is a newly appointed valued member of the NZERF team, representing the interests of Equestrian sport, its horses, and its riders.

Based in Hawke’s Bay, I am passionate about creating sustainable equine strategies that balance commercial viability, uphold the highest welfare standards, and adapt to the evolving needs of our industry. My experience spans research, equestrian events, horse training, horse sales, and governance, with a focus on ensuring each contributes positively to the long-term health and success of the sector.

I currently serve as Manager of Tōmoana Showgrounds, New Zealand’s premier event and equestrian venue. I hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from Massey University, and have been fortunate to work with the Global Champions Tour, European equestrian teams, universities, and some of the world’s leading equestrian venues. These experiences have helped me develop a skill set grounded in both international best practices and the realities of our local industry.

I am pleased to join the NZ Equine Research Foundation and contribute my expertise to connect industry with research, translate academic knowledge into practical change, and ensure that every research initiative ultimately adds value to the horse.
