Support the New Zealand Equine Research Foundation

With your help, we can do much more and ensure the very best for all New Zealand horses.

The New Zealand Equine Research Foundation (NZERF) provides a vital service to the New Zealand horse industry and in turn all New Zealand horses, by constantly updating knowledge and providing grants for research into equine health and management. It is the Foundation’s purpose to:

  • Promote and expand knowledge regarding welfare breeding, feeding, management, health, and performance of all horse types

  • Encourage the study and understanding of horses

  • Raise and administer funds for research on the horse

  • Disseminate the results of all such works so the NZ horse-owning public are well informed of advances in our knowledge of horses

  • Provides expertise and assistance to all equine industry groups

Grants Scholarships to Undergraduate Vets

Grant Scholarships to bright undergraduate veterinarians with a background and interest in horses to retain their enthusiasm for the equine industry.

Why does your support matter?

The New Zealand Equine Research Foundation needs your financial support to continue and expand the vital work it undertakes for our horses. Research into equine health and management is essential but expensive, plus the dissemination of all knowledge gained isn’t without cost either. Advancements in technology can significantly improve diagnoses and treatment regimes for horses. The NZERF provides grants for such purposes, but the costs associated with these technologies are often high, and the grants can be inadequate.

The NZERF Board comprises a team of experienced horse researchers and administrators from a wide cross-section of the industry, many of whom are either supported by their organisations to be involved or donate their time freely. They possess critical skills and knowledge to evaluate research projects that are valuable to the industry. It is recognised as an independent research organisation that represents the entire horse industry that operates as a charitable trust and has the capacity to attract funding from various sources, including endowments, gifts, bequests, and donations, which are used to support equine research and education.

In summary, supporting the NZERF is critical to the ongoing success of the horse industry in New Zealand, and additional funding is essential to enable the organization to continue providing its valuable services.
