Margaret Evans
NZERF Board Member

I first came to know about the NZERF not long after it was established when I was fortunate enough to receive some funding to carry out equine reproduction research.

This funding greatly affected my career and to this day I remain extremely grateful to those who had the wisdom and foresight to establish the NZERF. Therefore, when I was asked to join the NZERF Board in 2003, I did so with much enthusiasm as I believe it plays such an important role in supporting research in NZ. In addition, the role of the NZERF in the education and the encouragement of young people in our industry has been of such value over time.

I have been a member of the technical sub-committee throughout my tenure, and I am a former chair of the Board. In my working life I was a scientist working initially at Lincoln University and then in the endocrine section of Christchurch hospitals, and I was fortunate to be able to continue some equine research interest over this time, particularly in the area of the role of hormones in reproduction.

Outside of work - I am married to Bruce Taylor, a veterinarian who worked mainly with horses and in equine stud practice and we have 2 sons who are both involved in the industry as competitive riders and in veterinary practice. I am involved in equestrian sport having been a long time member of Eventing Canterbury and am currently on the Equestrian Sports NZ Eventing (ESNZ) Board and the ESNZ Board.

Over the years we have bred a number of sport horses and Standardbred horses, and we currently have some Standardbreds racing.
