Hoof Care and Management Booklet

A project that has been in the pipeline for some time is now available, the Hoof Care and Management Booklet, authored by Dr Julie Bell

The New Zealand Equine Research Foundation is most grateful to Dr Julie Bell for compiling this very important booklet on care and management of horses’ feet. As all horsemen and horsewomen know good feet are critical to the horse’s wellbeing and ultimately performance.
— Chairman, Dr Tim Pearce

Understanding the basics of Hoof Care and Management doesn’t need to be complicated, but getting it right is often key to a happy, healthy and sound horse. With so much information out there, the New Zealand Equine Research Foundation wanted to support the publishing of a booklet backed by veterinary science so that every horse owner may be confident in managing their horse’s hooves.

There has been a real need to fill the space of knowledge for horse people and although this booklet is very simple it serves as an excellent starting point for people to understand the anatomy and functional aspects of the equine hoof. This booklet should be read in conjunction with our previous publication “Equine Laminitis”.

The NZERF would like to thank both the New Zealand Equine Veterinary Association and Rodmor Charitable Trust for their support in getting this book published and available to all horse owners free of charge.
